Wildlife is truly the barometer of the health of our environment. Growing up in the small logging and mining towns of north Idaho, I began photographing nature and wildlife some 50 years ago. Photographic equipment and technology have changed dramatically over the years and so has the amount of habitat available to wildlife. We are in an era of environmental awareness. Never before has the sustainability and health of wildlife held a greater hold om human consciousness. I’ve lived my entire life in the Rocky Mountains, and I’ll never leave. No other place on earth has the diversity of landscape and wildlife. This beautiful and timeless land is truly America’s greatest treasure. I hope this collection of images is fresh and unexpected, something that captures both the drama of nature and the heart of the photographer. The wellbeing of our planet and our relationship to wildlife is to be cherished.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
My birthplace inspires me to share my close encounters with wild animals and their awesome inspiring beauty. I love exploring America’s vanishing wildness. The beauty of these places is timeless and needs preservation. Generally, I start out looking for landscapes to photograph. Inevitably, I run into something brown and fuzzy. I rationalize that the mountain will be there tomorrow, and this critter could be gone in an instant. So, my work is constantly shifting to wildlife.
My equipment and technique is very basic. I use a variety of DSLR cameras and lenses. I prefer prime lenses as opposed to zoom lens for clarity reasons. Very rarely do I use lighting equipment or filters. What you see, is what I saw.
I’ve photographed wildlife from Alaska to Africa.
My work has appeared in "Outdoor Life", "Field and Stream", and numerous other publications.
I’ve been honored to receive the Editor’s Choice award, the Pinnacle award, and most recently published a book of my wildlife images entitled “Too Damn Close” which is available on Amazon. To find more about my Book, click here.
